I am elated to have joined such an informative website such as World Beat Planet. Not only does it keep us informed, it also allow everyone to contribute in a way that is insurmountable. I am a recent member, and I do look forward to meeting my fellow community.
I have chosen to initiate a discussion about Senegalese artist, specifically Viviane N'Dour, whom I had the opportunity to see for the first time last year in Gambia, West Africa, while vacationing.
Also, I would like to mention another Senegalese artist, Ndongo Mbaye, whom I am very much fond of, and happen to love dearly. As I'm certain some may know that Ndongo was one of Baaba Maal's dancers, as well as his Tama/Talking Drum player.
My question is this: Why is it that artist such as the ones I just mentioned, aren't celebrated, or revered as much as other artist? As so many others have, these artist, too, have contributed to the music industry, and have had an impact on many of whom they have encountered. Although she is no artist, musician, or scientist, Princess Diana, may her soul rest in perfect peace, was not celebrated, or shown appreciation until after her death.
Why is it that we wait until someone, whom is so dear to us, oftentimes go un-noticed, or isn't given the recognition they deserve while living?
Moreover, I hope all who took the time to read this, will be receptive of what has been said, and take the initiative to do better, today, so that our tomorrow will not have any regrets. I hope I don't offend anyone, but let us give thought to what has been said, and try to do better, not only in the music realm, but in our personal lives. Let us start showing our loved ones that we care, and appreciate them while they live!

Re: Senegalese Artist/Dancers/Musicians
Welcome to WorldBeatPlanet. I'd love to hear more about less well-known artists. My dream for WorldBeatPlanet is to turn it into a record label that will distribute music by many of these artists.
